5 Reasons To Have Your Family Session At Home (Even In Switzerland)

I have started my photography business almost five years ago and since then I had sessions in a great variety of outdoor and indoor locations. To be honest I quite dreaded home sessions at the beginning but that shifted dramatically during those years and today I do home sessions almost exclusively. So why do I like them better? And why do I propose them in such a beautiful Switzerland?

1. Your Child Comfort Level

When it comes to family sessions everything happens around children. With newborns it is almost a no brainer to do a family session at home (or at least indoor if you are into a studio photography) but if it comes to older children lots of people tend to prefer outdoors. The reality is that children usually engage much easier in their own space, they warming up much faster and do not get overstimulated at home. That helps if you want to capture the moments when you are truly focused on each other, loving, being silly and really just being yourselves. Sessions at home simply eliminate lots of barriers to feeling natural and relaxed which is exactly what my sessions are aiming for.

2. Documenting Your Home - Creating Your Legacy

We move homes (even countries) much more often nowadays than our parents and grandparents did. My family moved 5 times during the last 12 years and I know we are not an exception here. Pictures at home instantly bring those memories back and create your family history. When I look at those pictures taken in our house in Budapest where my daughter was born I just feel SO much! Let’s give your children the memory of bed you were all pilled on during the weekends or sofa you watched movies together on.

3. Beautiful Window Light

You probably know that the photography exists because of light and without light there would be no pictures. But, unless you are a photographer or studied light for a different reason, you would not know all its characteristics. The light at home is directional and in most cases bright enough to provide an ideal environment for us (thanks to those architects and engineers who designed our houses! ). We can shape this light using curtains and we can change it intensity by moving around. Window light is simply the best tool to highlight those connection and emotions I am aiming for in my photography. But no worries, you do not need all this technical knowledge, just trust me, it is my job!

4. It is Easy. Really.

If you had an outdoor session before you know how chaotic and stressful the preparation is. At home you don’t have to pack up snacks, make sure that you have extra clothes, worry about the weather or being in the right place on time. And if you worry about the house, there is a bit to prepare it but really nothing big (and surely no renovation!) required.

5. You are in your safe space

At your house we will never risk having to take photos in front of an audience in the park. Your can have a break and hide in the other room (dads love this one) or can fix your hair, make up - the bathroom is few steps away. You can get cozy and close. If you are craving photos that show connection and love in your family relationships, opening up in the place where you would naturally be open is simply effortless. That all is offered by a session at home.
